For those of us in the twitterverse, the following tweet caught on like wild fire yesterday.

  At first glance, this looks to be one of the most epic rowing photos we have ever seen!  Unfortunately, something seemed to be a little fishy (yes, the pun was intended).  To confirm whether or not this photo was actually real, row2k contacted Capital Rowing.  If you look closely at the right side of the photo it says: “Photo Courtesy Karen Zareski & Caitlin Toynbee.”  After a little bit of a search, we discovered that Karen and Caitlin are members of Capital Rowing in Washington, DC.  We were able to contact Capital Rowing and they confirmed that the photo is in fact a fake.  

The original shark photo was taken by Thomas Peschak who captured a  kayaker being followed by a somewhat ominous figure. After a bit of work in Photoshop, the shark is now stalking a rowing shell. Sorry for the buzz kill internet!  Even though the photo isn’t real, it’s still pretty awesome!
